This past Halloween season, Amazon premiered the “X-Files”-esque paranormal investigation series “Truth Seekers,” which boasted a cast led by Nick Frost (Shaun of the Dead) and also including Simon Pegg (Shaun of the Dead) and Malcolm McDowell. Unfortunately, the initial debut season of the series is the only season we’re getting, we’ve learned this morning.
Amazon has pulled the plug on “Truth Seekers” after just one season.
“We really put our all into this – our heart and soul, and blood in some cases, so to not come back is really sad for us. It’s a shame. I think we had lots of lovely ghost stories to tell – stories that will remain now untold,” Frost said in an Instagram video announcing the bad news.
Our own Daniel Kurland was a fan of the debut season, writing in his review: “The first season of this show touches on some unconventional bases and it’s exciting to think where a second season would take these characters and what fresh aspects of the horror genre that it’d like to examine. Hopefully Truth Seekers will be given a chance to grow, but if it doesn’t it will still stand out as an excellent piece of horror/comedy that tells a complete story on its own.”
“Truth Seekers” is a horror comedy series about a team of part-time paranormal investigators who team up to uncover and film ghost sightings across the UK, sharing their adventures on an online channel for all to see. However, as they stake out haunted churches, underground bunkers and abandoned hospitals with their array of homemade ghost-detecting gizmos, their supernatural experiences grow more frequent, more terrifying and even deadly, as they begin to uncover a conspiracy that could bring about Armageddon for the entire human race.
Set in a mysterious world filled with dread and just-out-of-sight monsters, “Truth Seekers” mixes the very funny with the very scary in an exciting take on genre storytelling, and stars Nick Frost as Gus, Simon Pegg as Dave, Samson Kayo as Elton, Malcolm McDowell as Richard, Emma D’Arcy as Astrid, and Susan Wokoma as Helen.
The series is co-written by Pegg, Frost, Nat Saunders, and James Serafinowicz.
