American Gods has had a messy bit of time on the air at Starz. In its first season, Bryan Fuller of Hannibal fame took his Neil Gaiman adaptation into a visionary direction, that broke the rules of television in my opinion. However, it wasn’t long before Fuller stepped down from production and the series suddenly became a lot less trippy and visionary and a lot more…. ordinary.

Now, it appears that American Gods has been cancelled out right after its third and final season. The series had a bit of trouble after leaving Fuller’s hands. Gaiman was on onboard, but his duties at Netflix for the upcoming The Sandman series has become his focus. The cancellation of American Gods is unfortunate but not unexpected.

“This has been an amazing journey thus far and I am so grateful to my fellow cast and crew who have worked so hard on this award winning show. We have the best fans around the world and thank each of you for your passion and support, so know that Neil Gaiman, Fremantle myself and the cast are still committed to completing Neil Gaiman’s critically acclaimed story,” Ricky Whittle wrote Deadline.

Ricky Whittle took to Twitter to give a bit of hope to fans. Stating “let’s finish this”. In hopes that the series is given a chance to sum everything up in a TV movie sort of format.

What do you think American Gods fans? Would you like to see a TV movie finish out the series? Let us know in the comments section.
