Dwayne Johnson’s Jumanji 4 is in the early stages of development
In a recent interview with Comic Book, Seven Bucks Productions’ President of Production Hiram Garcia was asked about the future of their blockbuster Jumanji franchise. He confirmed that they are indeed planning to produce a fourth Jumanji installment, revealing that the Dwayne Johnson-led project is currently in the early stages of the development. Garcia also teased big plans they have for the sequel as the video-game adventure franchise is one of the company’s most successful projects to date.
“You know, we’re always having conversations, and that’s a family, that entire group if there’s ever been,” Garcia said. “It’s hard to imagine or remember a time I’ve been on a set where it’s just a beloved group of cast and crew and actors and that’s just one of those things where we know we have a really big idea that we want to do with it. We’ve been discussing it.”
He continued, “There’s conversations have been going we’re in the process of moving that along. I can’t tell you anything, but we do have big plans for it and that’s one of our favorite projects to work on and that’s cooking away.”
Garcia’s new update about the follow-up installment comes more than a year since the threequel Jumanji: The Next Level made its theatrical debut in December 2019. It garnered positive reviews from critics and was able to earn a worldwide gross of $800 million against a reported budget of $125-132 million. The entire Jumanji franchise currently has a combined gross of more than $2 billion worldwide.
In The Next Level, the gang is back but the game has changed. As they return to Jumanji to rescue one of their own, they discover that nothing is as they expect. The players will have to brave parts unknown and unexplored, from the arid deserts to the snowy mountains, in order to escape the world’s most dangerous game.
The film sees the return of Dwayne Johnson (Jungle Cruise), Karen Gillan (Avengers: Infinity War), Kevin Hart (The Secret Life of Pets 2), Jack Black (The House with a Clock in its Walls), Alex Wolff (Hereditary), Madison Iseman (Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween), Ser’Darius Blain (Charmed), Morgan Turner (Wonderstruck), Nick Jonas (Chaos Walking) and Rhys Darby (A Series of Unfortunate Events), Colin Hanks (King Kong) and has added newcomers Danny DeVito (Dumbo), Awkwafina (Crazy Rich Asians), Danny Glover (Sorry to Bother You) and Dania Ramirez (Tell Me A Story).
Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner penned the script with director Jake Kasdan returning to helm the new installment.
