Mondo debuts Godzilla vs. Kong posters & tiki mugs!
As positive reviews continue to roll out for the highly-anticipated MonsterVerse crossover battle, Mondo has officially joined the Godzilla vs. Kong battle as it has debuted two new special posters for the films as well as special tiki mugs celebrating the legendary titans! The new posters and mugs can be viewed in the gallery below!
The special artwork hails from Phantom City Creative and features two versions of the poster, one English-language colored form and a black-and-white iteration in Japanese, throwing it back to the titular kaiju’s roots, both of which retail for $50 and are sized at 24″ x 36″. To stay in touch with the competition of the film, the tiki mugs were each developed by different in-house Mondo sculptors, with the Godzilla matte black and limited edition Heat Ray variant being designed by Mondo’s Mike Bonanno and sculpted by Tufan Sezer and Bonanno, while both the matte black and limited edition Skull Island variants of Kong being designed and sculpted by Mondo’s Hector Arce. All of the mugs are set to retail for $60, with everything going on sale sometime tomorrow.
“This was an incredibly fun one for me to work on and it was a challenge coming up with a nice companion to the amazingly textured Godzilla that Hector designed,” Bonanno said in a statement. “I’m a monkey on the chinese zodiac calendar and also…I’m called Mikey Bananas all the time, so of course, I gotta lean towards Team Kong.”
Directed by Adam Wingard (Death Note) on a script from Eric Pearson (Black Widow) and Max Borenstein (Godzilla: King of the Monsters) based on a story treatment from Zach Shields, Michael Doughtery (Krampus) and Terry Rossio (Shrek), the epic action-adventure pits two of the greatest titans in motion picture history against each other with humanity caught square in the middle. The film not only marks the second major showdown between the two, but also marks the 36th Godzilla film and 12th Kong outing, with the former having two under his belt for the MonsterVerse while the latter has only Skull Island.
Godzilla vs. Kong features an ensemble roster of talent, including returning MonsterVerse stars Millie Bobby Brown (Stranger Things) and Kyle Chandler (First Man) as well as Alexander Skarsgård (The Stand), Rebecca Hall (The Night House), Brian Tyree Henry (Atlanta), Shun Oguri (Gintama), Eiza González (Baby Driver), Julian Dennison (Deadpool 2) and Demián Bichir (Land). King of the Monsters‘ Zhang Ziyi and franchise newcomer Jessica Henwick (Love and Monsters) were slated to appear in the film, though their roles were left on the cutting room floor.
The film is produced by Mary Parent, Alex Garcia, Eric McLeod and Brian Rogers, with Kenji Okuhira, Yoshimitsu Banno, Jon Jashni and Thomas Tull serving as executive producers. Jay Ashenfelter, Jen Conroy and Tamara Kent are co-producers.
The most recent film in Legendary’s MonsterVerse, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, hit theaters in Summer 2019, ending with Godzilla taking his rightful place as the ruler of all Titans, though unfortunately was not as victorious at the box office as it only grossed $385.9 million against a budget estimated to be as high as $200 million.
