Cosmic Reaper Drop a Groovy Stoner Doom Track with “Sundowner”

Metal Sucks

If you’re looking for something heavy, groovy, and a little trippy with the fuzz turned up to 11, then boy do I have a track for you this Wednesday morning. Less than an hour ago, the North Carolinian stoner doom quartet Cosmic Reaper unveiled their latest song “Sundowner” off the split EP they’re releasing with Endtime this coming January.

Set for release via Heavy Psych Sounds, the Doom Sessions Vol. 7 EP will feature five songs from the two bands, with Cosmic Reaper making up the majority with three new songs — “Sundowner” being one of them.

“The song is about someone with a debilitating brain disease succumbing to paranoid hallucinations in the dark. We’re capable of creating a lot more horrors in our minds than we ever could in reality. With “Sundowner,” we went for something groovy, but foreboding, with an ending that descends into madness. But, more importantly, we hope this track makes you bang your head!”

The Doom Sessions releases have been going on since 2020, with each iteration featuring previously unreleased tracks from stoner and doom bands like Conan, Bongzilla, Acid Mammoth, and -(16)-.

Last month, Endtime’s trippy synth-filled track “Tunnel of Life” was debuted as well. That track, which you can also check out below, features an almost John Carpenter-esque sound to it while making room for overdriven guitars and pissed off vocals.

Doom Sessions Vol. 7 will be released on January 20 via Heavy Psych Sounds, though you can preorder your copy today.
