While I wasn’t much of a fan of Elysium or Chappie, I do love Neill Blomkamp‘s sci-fi extravaganza District 9, his first tribute to James Cameron’s Aliens that was about “an extraterrestrial race forced to live in slum-like conditions on Earth.” – (IMDb)
Blomkamp, who was once working on a live-action Halo film, used his visual effects resources to turn in a low budget sci-fi epic that looked as expensive as a Marvel movie. Having just completed the EFM project Demonic, it looks as if he’s primed to return to his roots and get behind the camera for a D9 sequel.
Blomkamp revealed in the following tweet that District 10 is currently being co-written by District 9 screenwriter Terri Tatchell with star Sharlto Copley!

The filmmaker has openly talked about plans for a sequel over the years, noting that he’d continue the story from District 9‘s cliffhanger ending. Back in 2015, he told IGN that the concept for the first film was a “story about the Nazi becoming the Holocaust victim,” which really does feel timely and opens the door for fresh commentary.
