If you’re one of the five people who were really bummed to hear that Ill Niño have parted ways with singer Cristian Machado and guitarists Ahrue Luster and Diego Verduzco, it’s time to turn that frown upside down!
The trio have announced that they’re reuniting in a new project, Lions at the Gates. The band is rounded out by bassist by bassist Stephen Brewer, who played guitar in Westfield Massacre, and drummer Fern Lemus, who is apparently in a band called Super Monster Party.
The quintet have promised to debut their first single this week, but a teaser on social media (below) suggests, unsurprisingly, that this band is going to sound a lot like Ill Niño. Once again, I congratulate everyone for whom that is exciting news.
Meanwhile, the guys who remain in Ill Niño include Dave Chavarri (drums), Lazaro Pina (bass), and Daniel Couto (percussion) along with new singer Leal (Shattered Sun) and new guitarists Jes Dehoyos (Sons of Texas) and Sal Dominguez (ex-Upon a Burning Body). That version of the band have released two singles thus far: “Máscara” and “All or Nothing,” which features P.O.D.’s Sonny Sandoval.
