Ghostbusters: Afterlife is bringing  ghosts back to ghost traps and dollars back to the box office. So far, we have seen a huge amount of cash brought into the box office by horror movies like Candyman, Spiral, Etc… This horror/comedy is bringing in the big bucks too. So far, GB:A has brought in $40 million+ so far – and it’s only Saturday.

Expectations were set at $30 – $35 million. So, bustin’ ghosts managed to blow right past that in a big way. We are pretty much guaranteed a follow up for Ghostbusters at this point.

Director, Jason Reitman intentionally set this one up to be a picture about Egon’s family. The entire film is a dedication to Harold Ramis without a doubt. From here on out, the franchise will be able to take things back to the firehouse in New York and to take the original cast back to busting ghosts. Reitman can now easily have a kids branch of Ghostbusters and an adult side to bustin them ghosts. I would love to see Paul Rudd head to New York with the classic lineup. A slow passing of the torch to a new team of characters would be awesome.

The synopsis for Ghostbusters: Afterlife goes like this:

When a single mother and her two children move to a new town, they soon discover they have a connection to the original Ghostbusters and the secret legacy their grandfather left behind.

The weekend isn’t even over and the film is at $40 million+!  We are excited to see where these numbers are come Monday morning.
