Actress Jenna Ortega has signed on to co-star in the new installment of Scream headed our way from Spyglass Pictures and Paramount.
Ortega, most recently seen in You on Netflix, joins previously announced returning cast David Arquette and Courteney Cox reprising their roles as Dewey Riley and Gale Weathers. The actress is also set to appear in The Babysitter: Killer Queen, a sequel to The Babysitter, which will debut on the streaming platform next month.
James Vanderbilt (Zodiac) has penned the script for the new film directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett. The directing duo’s credits include Ready or Not and V/H/S. Franchise creator Kevin Williams is serving as executive producer on the film.
Scream was a game-changer in the 90s simultaneously resurrecting the waning slasher genre while gently–okay not so gently–poking fun at the genre. Countless other films tried to capitalize on the formula but few came close to capturing the lightning-in-a-bottle feel of the film and its subsequent sequels.
Details are, of course, being kept under wraps as to exactly what we will be seeing in this new entry but we are certain to learn more as production nears.
