2021 will without a doubt be the year of the kaiju. We already have Godzilla Vs King Kong smashing its way into theaters, and now we have the return of Jaegers and Kaiju in Pacific Rim: The Black.
Based on the origin of Guillermo Del Toro’s Pacific Rim and its sequel, Netflix’s Pacific Rim: The Black returns to tell more story from this rich landscape.
The official synopsis for Pacific Rim: The Black goes like this:
“After Kaiju ravage Australia, two siblings pilot a Jaeger to search for their parents, encountering new creatures, seedy characters and chance allies.”
The series tells a new story but deals with more monsters and more intriguing characters. The very thing that made Guillermo Del Toro’s film so captivating. There was just a lot to pull from in this world. Del Toro has that ability to make his worlds and characters live and breathe. The rest is just maintenance to his original idea.
The original film’s synopsis went like this:
“As a war between humankind and monstrous sea creatures wages on, a former pilot and a trainee are paired up to drive a seemingly obsolete special weapon in a desperate effort to save the world from the apocalypse.”
Pacific Rim: The Black lands on Netflix beginning March 4.
