It looks like Tom Morello is gonna have another year of putzin’ around the Internet, schooling conservatives who somehow don’t realize Rage Against the Machine is a politically liberal band: the seminal rap-metal band have just delayed their eagerly-anticipated reunion tour for the second time, to 2022.
The tour had been scheduled to kick off on June 3 in El Paso, Texas. Even with vaccinations rapidly becoming more available, it’s understandable that the band and concert organizers felt a lack of confidence that in less than two months, things will be back-to-normal-enough to produce these shows.
Which isn’t to say this isn’t disappointing. I had a dream maybe six months ago about Vince and I going to see RATM and having the time of our lives. Think I miss hanging out with my friends and going to shows much?
The new dates are below (courtesy of Lambgoat). Support at all shows will still come from Run the Jewels.
Rage Against the Machine are one of this year’s nominees to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. So the tour could end up being extra-celebratory by the time it happens.
Meanwhile, Tom Morello recently signed on to be the executive music producer for Metal Lords, a high school comedy about “Two kids [who] want to start a heavy metal band in a high school where exactly two kids care about heavy metal.” It’s being directed by Peter Sollett (Raising Victor Vargas), written by D.B. Weiss (Game of Thrones), and will Jaeden Martell (It, Knives Out).
