‘Scream’: In Exactly One Year, Ghostface Returns!

The official account for the upcoming relaunch of the Scream film franchise has taken to Twitter to remind us that we’re *exactly* one year away from Ghostface’s return…

Today is January 14, 2021. Scream will be released in theaters on January 14, 2022.

Find a short little “one-year-away” teaser below.

The planned January release may seem a little odd for a big horror movie such as this one, as it’s often considered a “dump month” for horror, but keep in mind that the first three Scream movies were released in December and February. The most recent installment in the franchise, Wes Craven’s Scream 4 back in 2011, brought Ghostface back to theaters in April.

It will likely be a while before we have a trailer or the first batch of images from Scream 5, but we can expect that 2021 will be a big year on the Scream front. So stay tuned for more!

Dylan Minnette (Goosebumps), Mason Gooding (Let It Snow), Kyle Gallner (Ghosts of War), Jasmin Savoy Brown (“Love”) and Mikey Madison (Once Upon a Time in Hollywood) recently joined an ensemble that also includes Neve Campbell as Sidney Prescott, David Arquette and Courteney Cox who will return as Dewey Riley and Gale Weathers, as well as new cast members Jack Quaid (“The Boys”), Melissa Barrera (“In The Heights”) and Jenna Ortega (“You”). Marley Shelton is also returning as Scream 4 character Deputy Judy Hicks

Scream is being directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett of the filmmaking group Radio Silence (Ready or Not, V/H/S) from a screenplay by James Vanderbilt (Murder Mystery, Zodiac, The Amazing Spider-Man) and Guy Busick (Ready or Not, Castle Rock).

Kevin Williamson is back as executive producer.
