The marketing campaign for Darren Lynn Bousman‘s Spiral: From the Book of Saw was abruptly stopped when the ongoing pandemic forced the release plan to change, moving out of 2020 entirely and currently still set for release on May 21, 2021. It’s finally coming soon, and that means the second round of the marketing is now officially underway.
Empire shares a new image of star Chris Rock in the film today, investigating a murder that we can only assume involves a whole of torture and one nasty death trap. Find it below.
Bousman tells Empire, “We wanted it to feel much more like Seven. But it has so many ties to the mythos of Saw.”
Bousman, who directed three previous films in the original Saw Franchise, also explains that Spiral is “much more about character, tension and fear” than it is gore and violence.
A sadistic mastermind unleashes a twisted form of justice in Spiral.
Working in the shadow of an esteemed police veteran (Samuel L. Jackson), brash Detective Ezekiel “Zeke” Banks (Rock) and his rookie partner (Max Minghella) take charge of a grisly investigation into murders that are eerily reminiscent of the city’s gruesome past. Unwittingly entrapped in a deepening mystery, Zeke finds himself at the center of the killer’s morbid game.
Spiral was written by Josh Stolberg and Pete Goldfinger, from a story by Chris Rock.
