I can say with all of the confidence in the world that this is one of the most overcrowded falls in history. Digging through it all has been tough, but we’ve been rewarded with more than a handful of hidden gems that horror fans are going to gush over when released.
While some are arriving by Halloweentime, others have premiered at the several virtual film festivals and are looking for a home come 2021. One major highlight is Justin Powell and David Charbonier‘s thrilling indie horror The Boy Behind the Door, which Meagan Navarro raved about ahead of this week’s AFI FEST premiere.
Described by Meagan as “harrowingly dark,” she also calls The Boy Behind the Door “an unrelentingly intense, boundary-pushing thriller.”
In the film, “A night of unimaginable terror awaits twelve-year-old, Bobby, and his best friend, Kevin, when they are abducted on their way home from school.
“Managing to escape his confines, Bobby navigates the dark halls, praying his presence goes unnoticed as he avoids his captor at every turn. Even worse is the arrival of another deranged stranger, whose mysterious arrangement with the kidnapper may spell certain doom for Kevin.
“With no means of calling for help and miles of dark country in every direction, Bobby embarks on a rescue mission, determined to get himself and Kevin out alive… or die trying.”
Here’s an exclusive clip from The Boy Behind the Door in which Bobby (Lonnie Chavis) finds his friend locked behind a door and calls the police for help. Warning: it’s gross.
