Well, we all knew this was coming sooner or later. The original 1973 classic, The Exorcist is being rebooted at Morgan Creek according to Deadline.
The bit of news came on the tail end of Deadline’s coverage of a Dead Ringer’s series being worked on at Amazon.
While this isn’t great news and comes out right around the news of a Planes, Trains and Other Automobiles getting a reboot with Kevin Hart and Will Smith, what else can we expect.
The Exorcist arguably launched an entire sub-genre in horror. Exorcism films are a ubiquitous and money making commodity, so while, it is painful news. It is also inevitable news.
The film based on William Peter Blatty’s book, The Exorcist was pretty well-explored in William Friedkin’s film. In fact, if you ask a certain subset of horror fans, they might tell you that The Exorcist is one of the most terrifying cinematic experiences they have had. So, it will be interesting to see what direction Morgan Creek can take this particular reboot.
How do you feel about an Exorcist reboot? Think there is story left to tell in an interesting way? Or do you there are some films that should be left alone? Let us know in the comments section.
