Them, a new horror anthology series created by Little Marvin (The Time is Now) and executive produced by Lena Waithe (Bad Hair), is set to debut on Amazon Prime on April 9, 2021.
Set in the 50s, the series focuses on Henry and Lucky Emory (Ashley Thomas and Deborah Ayorinde), a black couple who pack up their family and move to Los Angeles. Dealing with the racist attitudes of their all-white neighbors is one thing, but on top of that, the family is accosted by supernatural entities bent on their destruction.
Thomas and Ayorinde are joined in the first season by Shahadi Wright Joseph (Us), Ryan Kwanten (True Blood), Melody Hurd (Trick), Christopher Heyerdahl (Van Helsing), Alison Pill (American Horror Story: Cult), and Abbie Cobb (The Umbrella Man) to name just a few.
“I’ve always been a genre fan,” Little Marvin told Entertainment Weekly about the series. “I love specifically psychological horror. I always wanted to put a black family, frankly, at the heart of the kinds of stories I love the most, the classic kinds of horror movies that I never saw us centered in.”
The trailer for the new series dropped just yesterday and opens with a soft rendition of “Windmills of My Mind” playing over idyllic images of the family moving to their new home. Slowly, the tone begins to turn however. The neighbors stare just a little too long; shadows take on a life of their own, and a growing dread invades what was supposed to have been a dream.
