‘Train to Busan’ North American Remake In The Works

The cult zombie weeper Train to Busan is getting a North American remake according to Deadline. The South Korean horror movie has became a downed zebra to hungry American studio execs who saw a potential franchise. New Line won out.

Horror anthology officiando Timo Tjahjanto (V/H/S 2, ABCs of Death) is vying to direct. Other horror mavens, James Wan and Michael Clear are producers along with Nicolas Atlan and Terry Kalagian.

The screenplay is being written by IT: Chapter 2 and Annabelle: Creation scribe Gary Dauberman.

Sang-Ho Yeon directed the first Train to Busan and its sequel Train to Busan: Pennisula. The former was a massive hit at the box office, while the latter got only tepid reviews after its 2020 release.

This will reunite a trifecta of talent: New Line, James Wan, and Dauberman who worked together on the Conjuring films, its spinoff Annabelle and its other spinoff The Nun.

Wan has a busy year as three projects are scheduled to premiere in 2021: Mortal Combat, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, and the highly anticipated Giallo tribute, Malignant.

Not to be outdone as far as projects go, Dauberman is currently preparing to write and direct a Salem’s Lot remake from the novel by Stephen King.
