Universal is in Talks for a ‘Darkman’ Sequel Says Sam Raimi

iHorror

Sam Raimi is recently out in talks for the new Doctor Strange film. That means that he has been asked a kajillion times if he will direct another Evil Dead movie and of course – if there will be a Darkman sequel. While not as much the topic of press questions, there are Darkman fans out there who do want a sequel. The good news is that Raimi says that Universal is indeed interested in making a sequel and has a producer inline already, but so far it has no director.

“Yes. Universal is talking about a Darkman sequel. There’s a producer attached. I haven’t heard the story yet or gone into it, I’ve been so busy with Doctor Strange. But I think it’s cool.” Raimi Said.

That’s pretty exciting news. It seems like Raimi isn’t closed off to the idea of at least reading the script to see what it has going on. I for one very much do hope that he reads it and comes back for more Darkman.

Recently, Liam Neeson also expressed interest in coming back for a Darkman sequel. The timing of which is incredible now that we are hearing this bit of news from Raimi.

Darkman

If Raimi doesn’t direct it is not Darkman. If someone tries to imitate Raimi’s style it is somehow even worse. Yet, if Rami’s insane over the top kinetic action isn’t part of the film… then again, it is not a Darkman movie. There are great directors out there who can do a number of amazing things, but only Raimi has the recipe for this superhero bonkers cake and without that it can’t exist.

The synopsis for Darkman went like this:

When thugs employed by a crime boss lead a vicious assault on Dr. Peyton Wilder (Liam Neeson), leaving him literally and psychologically scarred, an emergency procedure allows him to survive. Upon his recovery, Wilder can find solace only by returning to his scientific work developing synthetic skin, and seeking revenge against the crime boss. He assumes a phantom avenger persona called Darkman, who, with malleable facial qualities, is able to infiltrate and sow terror in the criminal community.

We are hoping that Raimi does something small and goes back to his horror roots. Something like Evil Dead or Drag Me to Hell. But, after that it would be great to see Raimi onboard with Darkman once again.
