Separation, a new horror film from William Brent Bell (The Boy, The Devil Inside), is set to hit theaters on April 30, 2021, and we finally have a deeply unsettling trailer to go along with it.
Starring Mamie Gummer (The Ward), Rupert Friend (Strange Angel), Madeline Brewer (The Handmaid’s Tale), Violet McGraw (The Haunting of Hill House), and Brian Cox (Succession), the film tells the story of a young girl who finds solace in her artist father and her dead mother.
As my fellow iHorror writer, Kelly McNeely, described it, this is, “The Babadook, but make it Mama,” and we are here for every creepy, supernatural minute of it.
The trailer gives off those vibes, while simultaneously pulling a few tricks of its own, as you can see below.
Separation was shot entirely in New York City according to Deadline and is being distributed by Open Road and Briarcliff Entertainment in the U.S. and Canada. The film was originally slated to release on April 23rd, but the date was shifted after other box office releases were moved, making a cleaner opening weekend for the film.
