Wellington Paranormal, a horror mockumentary spin-off of What We Do in the Shadows, is headed to the U.S. in a joint acquisition by the CW and HBO Max. This marks the first time the two WarnerMedia brands have joined forces for this kind of undertaking.
The series follows the adventures of Officers O’Leary (Karen O’Leary) and Minogue (Mike Minogue), who both appeared in the film What We Do in the Shadows. The duo are members of the Wellington constabulary’s paranormal unit who investigate paranormal events in the capital of New Zealand which occur on a surprisingly regular basis. All of this takes place under the watchful eye of Sergeant Maaka (Maaka Pohatu).
The series was created by Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi as a direct spin-off of the feature film. Both men serve as executive producers on the series which was recently picked up for the UK by Sky Network. The third season of Wellington Paranormal debuted in New Zealand in February 2021.
Episodes of the comedy series will begin airing this summer on The CW, and will become available on HBO Max and The CW’s streaming platforms the following day.
